The Arena Recovery Community Center

The Arena is the flagship of Recovery Bartow. It is a place where you can connect with people like yourself, people who have faced similar challenges and come out the other side. We offer hope, non-judgmental support, and practical recovery resources to help you move forward in YOUR recovery, whatever that looks like for you. We believe that drug and alcohol addiction is no less a life and death struggle, especially given the introduction of fentanyl into the illicit drug market, than those gladiators who once fought in the Roman Colosseum.

What we provide free of charge:

  • One-on-one peer recovery coaching
  • Promotion of multiple pathways to recovery – one size does not fit all
  • Narcan training and distribution
  • Linkage to 12 step meetings and mutual support groups
  • Linkage to community resources (food, clothing, transportation, employment, etc.)
  • Treatment referrals
  • Recovery-focused community education and outreach
  • Family recovery support and resources

The theme for Brene’ Brown’s book Daring Greatly is the powerful quote, The Man in the Arena, from Theodore Roosevelt’s 1910 speech, Citizen in the Republic. She defines an arena as any moment or place where we have risked showing up and being seen; being vulnerable. We think this captures the essence of those who “dare greatly” to pursue the hope and reality of recovery.

Daring Greatly in the Arena

It is not the critic who counts; not the person who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the person who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, and comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends themselves in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if they fail, at least fails while daring greatly, so that their place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.
